Welcome!

Welcome to Wings of Whimsy! We make beautiful paper dragons for people to keep for inspiration, pets, adoptables and more. The possibilities are endless!

We have several different kinds of dragon, and all you have to do to receive one is *ask, or you can fill out our online Google Forms. We will then make you a dragon from our selections, and we will throw in a nametag as well. Thank you for visiting Wings of Whimsy, and make sure to poke around!

* = We must physically know you in order to recieve a paper dragon. We do not send dragons through the mail and we don't send them to people we don't know. You must also pay for your dragon with USD-- you can find the price of a dragon per species under the Dragons tab.

Dragon Library

~Dragon Archives~

Special information about all the different kinds of dragons! This library will help you understand all our species and get to know your little friend.

This page is separated in three parts.

  1. Part 1-- Hybrids and Hybridization.
  2. Part 2-- Specials.
  3.  Part 3-- Basic Breeds of Dragon

Each part will be separated by a line.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PART 1

HYBRID DRAGONS

  • Only a few species are available to hybridize. We tried all the different combinations, but some dragons are unable to mingle their genes. Oh well.
  • Hybrids are typically more aggressive than other dragons.
  • Hybrid dragons can only be made from two basic species. Triple hybrids are impossible.
  • If the above is attempted, the outcome will be only one of the parents' species, likely the more basic species.
  • Hybrids are unable to have or be hatchlings.

RUFFLESPINES

  • Rufflespines are smaller than both of their parents, since they are genetically engineered.
  • Rufflespines are able to breathe mist as their breath weapon. This helps clean their silk and scales, but mainly it just helps hide them.
  • Their horns can do small tasks of magic, such as lift objects that are little enough for the dragon to carry themselves.
  • The older a Rufflespine is, the longer its silk is.
  • These dragons cut the ribbons from their tails as part of their mating ritual, but it grows back.
  • Despite being able to mate, they STILL cannot have hatchlings. Both genders are infertile.
  • Each bandana around their neck has a different meaning. They weave these from the cloths of their tails during their very first mating season, then they cut it off and write what is special to them on the medallion. They will never part with it.

PART 2

SPECIAL DRAGONS

  • Regarding breeding, Special Dragons cannot:
  1. Breed with Special Dragons of other species (ex: Batdrakes breeding with Reindeer Dragons)
  2. Breed with ordinary dragons (ex: A Flower Gliderwing breeding with a Whiptail)
  3. Hybridize
  • Special Dragons can only breed with Special Dragons of their own species, or in some cases cannot breed at all (such as the Flower Gliderwings, Uncle Sam Gliderwings, Captain America Marionettes, Iron Man Gliderwings, and Smaug, as all dragons of those species come in only one gender).
  • Special Dragons are typically very friendly towards humans.
  • Special Dragons are often based on other dragons; therefore, Specials are 'event subspecies.'

FLOWER GLIDERWINGS
  • The Flower Gliderwing is a rare and elusive subspecies to the majestic Gliderwing dragon.
  • The Flower Gliderwing, much like the calico cat, is a mostly female species.
  • Flower Gliderwings' only natural enemies are aphids, which nip on their wings and can cause rash.
  • Flower Gliderwings are only present during the two weeks before and of Valentine's Day for three reasons:
A. Their breeding season lasts for the first two weeks of February.

B. These dragons are attracted to happiness, and will linger in excitement and generosity.

C. These dragons are wild for chocolate.
  • The Flower Gliderwing possesses the strange and uncommonly known ability to spray the scent of banana from a gland in its tail. This is why Flower Gliderwings are rumoured to 'have the power to make people happy.' However, these dragons rarely do so because they only use the gland when unhappiness is so tense that it can be felt in the air.
  • These dragons cannot actually mimic the scent of a flower, only its looks, so they wear flowers on their horns to use the smell.
  • Flower Gliderwings are very sensitive to human emotion.
  • When a Flower Gliderwing is kept in captivity, its scent sometimes changes or disappears completely. Most captive Flower Gliderwings' ability to spray banana scent weakens as well.
  • In the wild, these dragons help with pollination.
  • Feral Flower Gliderwings live in colonies with a female leader called a 'queen'.
  • If a dragon is from the lineage of a dragon 'queen,' then they will have petal shapes on the ends of their horns.
  • Flower Gliderwings are naturally slow flyers.
  • Flower Gliderwings weave their nests from banana peels and leaves.
  • Like most dragons, the Flower Gliderwing has a tendency to hoard things that it wants or likes.
  • These dragons constantly get headaches from sniffing fragrances too much.
  • The Flower Gliderwing is drawn to scented candles. However, their scales are highly flammable, so it is advised to keep them away from these candles.

PART 3

DRAGONS

  • The collective word for a population of dragons, regardless of species, is called a hoard.
  • Occasionally a group of dragons will form a colony. This is distinguished from a hoard because rather than a random population, a colony is a set government or pack that does not change and owns a set territory with boundaries.
  • Types of colonies include Kingdoms, which are higher class, ruled by a single individual, and are led by a Prime Rook, King, or Queen, while simple colonies are called Hives and have no hierarchy. Rather, they are an unchanging and stable population.
  • It is not in a dragon's nature to be either democratic or a strong enforcer of diplomacy, but domesticated specimens will take on the political stance of their owners.
  • Dragons have varying abilities, diets, and preferred territories.

ORIGINAL DRAGONS

  • Original Dragons were the very first species of dragon in existence.
  • Originals, unlike any species, can have any breath weapon, though fire is most common.
  • These dragons are known for their tails, which vary in length and shape depending on gender.
  • The Original Dragon has one of the most ravenous appetites, so feeding is constant.
  • This dragon loves dark hiding places, but not too tight-- most Originals have an aversion to small spaces.
  • They tend to live in caves.

GLIDERWINGS

  • At birth, Gliderwings' eyes are closed and remain that way for the first few weeks of their life, much like kittens and puppies.
  • Gliderwings are the most common species of dragon, but among the most majestic and highly prized.
  • Gliderwings are known for being athletic and are the only species of dragon that can fly.
  • Their birdlike wings and flat double tails are used for aerial maneuvering and gliding.
  • Gliderwings were the creators of a draconic sport as popular among these creatures as football among humans; Dragonlance jousting.
  • Gliderwings are among the most intelligent dragons and were both the first to forge weapons and build homes.
  • Gliderwings can have one of two different breath weapons: fire or plasma, the latter being the rarest.
  • Their legs are small, so they are not good at running or climbing. Therefore, they do not leave the air often, and their homes are up in high places.
  • The Gliderwing may be a good flier, but they are not particularly fast and maintain drifting speeds.
  • Males and females can be distinguished from each other by the markings under their eyes; males will have a stripe pointing downward, whereas females will have a swirl curling backwards from their eyes.

MARIONETTES

  • Marionettes have ram-like horns used for battles over females. Females have the same type of horn for different reasons: foraging.
  • Marionettes have weak wings, so they rely on symbiosis with humans.
  • The Marionette species was once called the Mountain Dragon, but when evolution caused failure in flight due to heavier wings, they were renamed.
  • Because of its flightless wings, small legs, and thickset body, the Marionette has a huge tail used to slap the ground and propel itself forwards.
  • The Marionette dragon is known for its occasional vanity and intense love of theatrics.
  • Thanks to its useless wings, this species now scavenges for its food. They're more than willing to share a morsel with a human.
  • The few Marionettes that still live in the wild rival Crystalizers for territory.
  • Almost all dragons have some sort of natural breath weapon. Marionettes can breathe blasts of rock, stone, and mud.
  • Discarded Marionette scales can be used as a mirror because they are kept astonishingly clean, like jewels.
  • Marionettes are unable to burrow. Their natural nests are actually on mountains, not in them.
  • Marionettes have an obsession with hoarding anything dramatic that can adorn their scales, from bright eye-scorching war paint to an extra-frilly corset.
  • These dragons are able to project their voices far distances, because they are surprisingly loud.
  • Marionette voices are loud because their mating calls involve warbling shrieks and magnificent crows and songs.
  • The females are normally larger than the males.
  • They have unimpressive talons. They cannot even fight with them because they are too flat.
  • Marionettes usually have colors mimicking their natural home. Dragons who live in muddy, dull mountains with constant rockslides will probably look more brown, while dragons residing on stony, cold, icy mountains will probably be blue or white.
  • Marionette eggs have the fascinating ability to blend in with their environment completely, in a manner so that they are invisible. However, the dragon itself does not have this ability.
  • Eggs are layered with chromatophores.
  • This dragon is able to bury itself in mud for camouflage, though they don't like being dirty, nor underground, like other earth dragons.
  • Marionettes are typically more common when the weather is foul, as they usually use confusing storms to their advantage for hunting.
  • These dragons leap on their prey, slapping their heavy tails on the ground to land on the target and then using it again to knock them out.

ASIAN DRAGONS

  • These dragons can manipulate and spout water from their mouths.
  • Asian Dragons coil up into a tight ball to sleep, much like a snake.
  • Males can be told from females by their beards.
  • Asian Dragons have very short tails compared to their long serpentine bodies.
  • An Asian Dragon can breathe underwater and swim better than most other species, the only exception being an Original Dragon with aquatic abilities.

POCKET PYGMIES

  • Pocket Pygmies are able to reproduce, but their hatchlings are not allowed to be traded due to how frail and small they are.
  • A Pocket Pygmy's life essence is contained in the jewel on their forehead.
  • This species is powerful in numbers and can work as a huge swarm to jab at foes.
  • The Pocket Pygmy has a venom in its wings which it secretes while hunting. A single drop of this venom is enough to paralyze a full-grown Gliderwing, giving a group of Pygmies enough time to bring it down, kill it, and eat it.
  • These miniature dragons are skilled at climbing trees and can strike upside-down, making them very agile, nimble, and terrifying if you want to escape them.
  • Scary as it is, these small creatures will eat other dragons. They have a creepy diet of Gliderwings, particularly Flower Gliderwings. Tame Pygmies, to a Gliderwing owner's relief, only eat bananas.

WHIPTAILS

  • Whiptails are crafty and clever dragons that use their tails as lariats to trap prey and constrict it.
  • A Whiptail's typical habitat is in a hilly space with rolling plains, though they are known to dwell in canyons as well.
  • This dragon has the ability to levitate itself and other dragons through the air. This is hilarious to watch because young Whiptails will often accidentally go flying backwards until they learn to control this ability.
  • Whiptails have a tough, leathery skin.

CRYSTALIZERS

  • The Crystalizer is an earthbound species of dragon that dwells inside of and under mountain ranges. They rival the territory of Marionettes, which live on the cliffs, edges, and surfaces of mountains. They also occasionally come in contact with Gliderwings, who can roost on the peaks, but this is not usually problematic, as Gliderwings are widespread and live just about anywhere close to the sky.
  • Crystalizers are pure Earth dragons and can accelerate the growth of minerals, stalactites, and stalagmites. They are also able to find precious stones with relative ease.
  • These dragons come in the colors of gems, a very peculiar adaptation since many creatures are drawn to gems. It is believed this is for mating purposes.
  • Mining is a characteristic behavior for the Crystalizer. They typically have the most impressive hoards.
  • Nests for this species are very careful and precise so as not to disturb the mountain. They can be found in small deposits around underground lakes and are usually made from mud.
  • Crystalizers feed on small bats found in their habitat by disrupting their echolocation and luring them towards their dens.
